Position Summary:

In collaboration with the Sr Director of HR and the Associate General Counsel, is responsible for Human Resource compliance in Canada for both Gordon Food Service and affiliated Specialty Companies.  Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of HR compliance programs, HR compliance policies, and framework for employment equity programs.   The successful applicant may reside in Ontario or Quebec.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
  • Human Resources Management Certification Preferred (CHRM, CHRL) 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Human Resources, Compliance, Audit, or other related area or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.
  • A high level of proficiency in written and spoken English and French (fully bilingual in French/English) is preferred.

Essential Functions:

HR Compliance

  • Evaluates, develops and implements HR Compliance programs to protect and decrease organizational risk. 
  • Reviews pending and current federal, provincial, and/or local laws related to HR practices and manage the implementation, communication, and compliance tracking in accordance with the law. 
  • Manages HR risk mitigation projects through completion, serving as a strategic sounding board for the risk owners as well as the administrator ensuring follow up and task completion;
  • Manages HR compliance related projects ensuring timely execution, analyzing divisional needs, preparing project plans, and implementing accordingly. 


HR Policies

  • Oversees and manages HR policies and associated practices in Canada and collaborates with the HR divisions and legal team to ensure essential human resources practices, policies and employment processes are effectively implemented in both French & English.  
  • Works with internal stakeholders, leads the creation, storage, communication, approval process, translations and annual sign off of company policies and Code of Conduct
  • Represents and/or leads HR policy and practices on various functional and enterprise project teams, as well as leads a policy review committee(s).
  • Partners with HR divisions for mobility programs and relocation.


Employment Equity & Diversity

  • Leads the Gordon Food Service Federal Contractors Employment Equity Framework for Canada;
  • Ensures employment equity compliance through the development of appropriate Employment Equity plans, training, communication, analysis, annual government reporting, and all other federal contractor regulations.
  • Defines, tracks and analyzes diverse Talent Acquisition performance metrics and legal compliance
  • Provides oversight and analytics in support of D&I programs and initiatives.
  • Responsible for the data analysis related to the administration of the Federal Contractors Employment Equity Plans including design, goal identification, continuous risk assessments, divisional communication of results.


Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Vocational - knowledge of industry trends and developments.  Knowledge of employment-related laws in Canada, compliance, employment equity programs and reporting, and general HR practices and protocol.
  • Mathematical - knowledge of basic statistical math with ability to create mathematical formulas within Microsoft Excel or other systems to support data analysis.
  • Reasoning - ensures solutions are consistent with organizational objectives. Strong analytical skills to  audit and verify compliance data and offer solutions. 
  • Communication -  ability to communicate in written and verbal formats to convey information in formal public speaking and informal conversational communication. 
  • Human Relations - Ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external customers; ability to coach and motivate others to support divisions with compliance matters. 
  • Self Management - Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently to achieve results.
  • Knowledge of human resource laws and employment practices. 
  • Advanced knowledge of google sheets (ie pivot tables, reporting, and macros)


Equipment / Tools / Technology:

  • Microsoft spreadsheets, word 
  • Google applications including sheets, docs, drive, etc. 
  • HRIS software application preferred (ie Ceridian and Workday).
